Unlock Your LinkedIn Potential: Learn from Badassery’s Danielle Farage, A Top Voice

Looking to build an authentic brand on LinkedIn? Meet Badassery’s own Danielle Farage, a LinkedIn Top Voice for Gen Z and a top 10 influencer  in the Future of Work industry with over 12,000 followers. She’s been creating content on LinkedIn and Instagram since 2016, and became a LinkedIn creator in 2021.

With several years of experience in the future work, hiring, and HR tech industry, Farage has a unique perspective on what it takes to provide a voice for young professionals. In her recent Badassery Academy virtual workshop “Build an Authentic Brand on LinkedIn”, she shared practical tips on how to leverage your profile, provide value, and stay proactive on the platform.

  1. Leverage your profile: She stresses that her workshop “is not a LinkedIn 101 course where we tell you how to set it up,” but she shares how to strengthen your profile for professional exposure and success.

    1. Ensure you are using LinkedIn’s Creator Mode: Enabling creator mode on LinkedIn provides access to additional tools and features that aid in content creation and audience growth, enhancing your profile's reach and influence.

    2. Create a Banner to Show Your Credibility: Your profile banner on LinkedIn is your own real estate and billboard, be sure to note publications you may be featured in, topics you align with, and promote your success.

    3. Hashtags are NOT Dead: One of her key insights is that "hashtags are not dead, contrary to popular belief!" You can have up to five hashtags featured on your profile - they’re likely the first thing people will see about you and your content, besides what’s in your headline -  and you can even create your own. She recommends integrating at least two that have large followings, two that are specific to you, and one that is followed by a medium sized audience.

  2. Always Provide Value: Danielle emphasizes that posting your own original content  is crucial to expand your following and gain greater visibility. To ensure she delivers valuable material, she concentrates on (4) specific types.

    1. Educational: Focus on super tangible things that you can take away from a post. This format also encourages people to share your post, so LinkedIn favors this.

    2. Personal: It’s important to be authentic and vulnerable. If you choose to share personal content, including a photo of your face can enhance the connection with your audience.

    3. News: When you share news, don’t just repost it. She suggests including your unique perspective, and if you’re trying to build authority on a specific topic, regularly contributing to trending news articles (in the top right corner of your feed) can help you get there. You might even be featured by the LinkedIn Editorial team. Also, don’t be afraid to be lengthy in your post, but use emojis to break down stats or facts and make it digestible for your audience.

    4. Celebratory: Make sure to start with a punchy line, and reinforce the relevance throughout. For example, instead of just saying, “Yay, this just happened!” Remember to answer the “So what?”

  3. Be Proactive:

    1. Engage with others discussing topics relevant to you on LinkedIn, and adopt the mindset that sharing your perspective is valuable and worthwhile.

    2. Don’t lose sight of your audience: Stay relevant and informed about who is following you and what their demographics, job titles, and locations are, so you can tailor your content to their interests and needs. You can even poll your audience once in a while, to get a feel for what content they want to see more of, and build from there.

By combining her HR background with her vast experience in marketing, Danielle’s content and thought leadership is helping bridging intergenerational divides at work and beyond. Farage has built a thriving online presence as a Work Futurist, Educator, and now Top 10 Future of Work Influencer and has helped others do the same. Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned professional, Danielle’s tips can help you unlock your potential on LinkedIn.
